Jeremiah 9 · Grade 4

Boast in the Lord

Name Date

Read and Think

Jeremiah's heart broke for his people. He wished his head were waters and his eyes a spring of tears so he could weep day and night. He even wished for a traveler's lodging in the wilderness, far from the lies around him.

The land was full of deceit. Friends deceived each other and would not speak the truth. People spoke peaceably to their neighbor but secretly planned harm. Through deceit, they refused to know God. God said he would test them like metal in a fire.

Then God showed what really matters. The wise man, the mighty man, and the rich man should not glory in what they have. But let him who glories glory in this, that he has understanding, and knows me. God exercises loving kindness, justice, and righteousness on the earth, and he delights in these things.
