Jeremiah 38 · Grade 3
Ebedmelech to the Rescue
Read the Story
The princes did not like Jeremiah's message. They took Jeremiah and put him into a pit in the court of the guard. They let him down with cords. There was no water, but mud, and Jeremiah sank in the mud.
Ebedmelech the Ethiopian worked in the king's house. He heard what they had done. He went to the king and said these men had done evil to Jeremiah the prophet. The king told him to take thirty men and take Jeremiah out of the pit.
Ebedmelech took old rags and worn-out clothes. He let them down by cords to Jeremiah. He told Jeremiah to put the rags under his arms under the cords. Jeremiah did so. They lifted him up out of the pit.
Memory Verse
“Then the king commanded Ebedmelech the Ethiopian, saying, “Take from here thirty men with you, and take up Jeremiah the prophet out of the dungeon, before he dies.””
