Jeremiah 30 · Grade 4

Saved Out of Trouble

Read and Think

Chapters 30 to 33 are often called the Book of Comfort, because they are full of hope. They begin with God's command to Jeremiah. Write all the words that I have spoken to you in a book. These promises were meant to be kept and read by people who had not yet seen them come true.

God described a time of great distress, a day so great that none is like it. Yet the promise followed immediately. It is even the time of Jacob's trouble; but he will be saved out of it. God would break the yoke from their necks, and they would serve Yahweh their God and David their king. Therefore don't be afraid, O Jacob my servant, says Yahweh.

God admitted that his people's wound seemed incurable, and that their own sin had caused it. Yet he promised to restore health to them and heal their wounds. Others had called Zion an outcast, saying no one cared for her. God would rebuild the city on its own mound and fill it with thanksgiving. You shall be my people, and I will be your God.
