Jeremiah 3 · Grade 4
I Will Heal Your Backsliding
Read and Think
In the days of King Josiah, God spoke to Jeremiah about two sisters, Israel and Judah. Israel, the northern kingdom, had turned from God, and God had sent her away. Judah, her sister, watched it happen. Yet Judah also turned away and came back only in pretense, not with her whole heart.
God told Jeremiah to proclaim toward the north that backsliding Israel should return. God would not look on them in anger, for he is merciful and would not keep anger forever. They only had to admit their wrong and that they had not obeyed his voice.
God promised that if they returned, he would give them shepherds after his own heart who would feed them with knowledge and understanding. All nations would gather to Jerusalem, called Yahweh's Throne. God longed to give them a pleasant land and wanted them to call him My Father. The chapter ends with the people admitting that they had sinned.
