Jeremiah 28 · Grade 3
A Prophet Who Was Not Sent
Read the Story
In the temple, a prophet named Hananiah spoke to Jeremiah. He said God had broken the yoke of the king of Babylon. Within two years, everything taken to Babylon would come back.
Jeremiah said, Amen! May Yahweh do so. Jeremiah wanted good things for his people too. But he said a prophet who promises peace is known as true only when his word happens.
Then Hananiah took the bar from Jeremiah's neck and broke it. Later God sent Jeremiah back with a message. Hananiah had broken bars of wood, but bars of iron would take their place. Jeremiah told Hananiah that God had not sent him. He had made the people trust in a lie.
Memory Verse
“As for the prophet who prophesies of peace, when the word of the prophet happens, then the prophet will be known, that Yahweh has truly sent him.””
