Jeremiah 18 · Grade 4
Like Clay in the Potter's Hand
Read and Think
God gave Jeremiah a lesson he could watch. Arise, and go down to the potter's house. Jeremiah saw the potter at the wheels. When the vessel was marred, the potter did not give up. He reshaped the clay into another vessel, as seemed good to the potter.
God asked if he could not do with Israel as this potter. As the clay in the potter's hand, so are you in my hand, house of Israel. God explained how this worked. If he warned a nation and it turned from evil, he would relent. If he promised good to a nation and it did evil, he would reconsider the good.
Sadly, the people answered that it was in vain. They would walk after their own plans. God said even snow on the mountains of Lebanon stays faithful, yet his people had forgotten him. Some people then planned to attack Jeremiah with their words. Jeremiah asked God to remember how he had prayed for them.
