Jeremiah 15 · Grade 4
I Ate Your Words
Read and Think
God told Jeremiah that even if Moses and Samuel stood before him, he would not turn toward this people. They had rejected God and gone backward. Judgment would come on Jerusalem, and few would pity the city.
Jeremiah felt the weight of being God's messenger. Everyone seemed to be against him, even though he had not harmed anyone. He reminded God that he had suffered reproach for God's sake. He had not sat in the assembly of those who make merry. He sat alone because God's hand was on him.
In the middle of his pain, Jeremiah remembered his joy. Your words were found, and I ate them. Your words were to me a joy and the rejoicing of my heart. God answered with a call and a promise. If Jeremiah would return and speak what was precious, not worthless, he would be as God's mouth. God would make him a fortified bronze wall. They will fight against you, but they will not prevail against you.
