Jeremiah 13 · Grade 4
Profitable for Nothing
Read and Think
Sometimes God taught his message with actions. He told Jeremiah to buy a linen belt and wear it, without washing it in water. Then God told him to take the belt to the Euphrates and hide it in a cleft of the rock. Much later, Jeremiah went back and dug it up. The belt was ruined and profitable for nothing.
God explained that he would ruin the great pride of Judah and Jerusalem in this way. The people refused to hear his words and walked in the stubbornness of their heart. They followed other gods. They had become like the spoiled belt.
God's purpose had been beautiful. As the belt clings to a man's waist, God had caused Israel and Judah to cling to him. They were meant to be his people, for a name, for praise, and for glory. So Jeremiah urged them, Hear, and give ear. Don't be proud, for Yahweh has spoken.

Memory Verse
“For as the belt clings to the waist of a man, so I have caused the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah to cling to me,’ says Yahweh; ‘that they may be to me for a people, for a name, for praise, and for glory; but they would not hear.’”
