Jeremiah 13 · Grade 3
A Belt by the River
Read the Story
God gave Jeremiah a strange job. He told him to buy a linen belt and wear it, but not to put it in water. So Jeremiah bought a belt and put it on his waist.
Then God told Jeremiah to go to the Euphrates River. He hid the belt there in a cleft of the rock. After many days, God sent him back. Jeremiah dug up the belt. It was ruined and good for nothing.
God explained the lesson. A belt clings to the waist of a man. God had made his people cling to him, so they could be his people and bring him praise and glory. But they would not hear. Pride had ruined them like the belt.
Memory Verse
“For as the belt clings to the waist of a man, so I have caused the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah to cling to me,’ says Yahweh; ‘that they may be to me for a people, for a name, for praise, and for glory; but they would not hear.’”
