Hosea 4 · Grade 4
Destroyed for Lack of Knowledge
Read and Think
Hosea 4 begins like a court case. Yahweh has a charge against the inhabitants of the land. Indeed there is no truth, nor goodness, nor knowledge of God in the land. Without knowing God, the people broke His commands, and the land itself suffered.
God placed much of the blame on the priests. My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because the priests rejected knowledge and forgot the law of God, the people did not know God either. Leaders who forget God lead others away.
The people consult with their wooden idol, and answer to a stick of wood. They were not faithful to God. Israel has behaved extremely stubbornly, like a stubborn heifer. God's sad question is how He can feed them like a lamb in a meadow when they refuse Him.
