Hosea 3 is the shortest chapter in Hosea, but it shows the heart of the book. Hosea's wife had left him. Yahweh told Hosea to go again and love her, even as Yahweh loves the children of Israel, though they turn to other gods.

Hosea obeyed. He bought her for fifteen pieces of silver and a homer and a half of barley. She had become like someone who could be sold. Hosea paid the price to bring her home, and he asked her to stay with him many days and be faithful.

Hosea's actions were a message. Israel would live many days without king, without prince, without sacrifice, without idols. But afterward the children of Israel shall return and seek Yahweh their God, and David their king, and shall come with trembling to Yahweh and to his blessings in the last days.
