Hebrews 2 · Grade 3

Crowned With Glory and Honor

Name Date

Read the Story

Hebrews 2 begins with a warning. Therefore we ought to pay greater attention to the things that were heard, lest perhaps we drift away. God’s message about salvation is great. God confirmed it with signs, wonders, and gifts of the Holy Spirit.

Then the chapter quotes a psalm. What is man, that you think of him? God made people a little lower than the angels and crowned them with glory and honor. Jesus also was made a little lower than the angels, and now he is crowned with glory and honor.

Jesus became like his brothers in every way. He is not ashamed to call them brothers. He became a merciful and faithful high priest. Because he himself was tempted, he is able to help those who are tempted.

Memory Verse

“For in that he himself has suffered being tempted, he is able to help those who are tempted.”

Hebrews 2 · Grade 4

So Great a Salvation

Name Date

Read and Think

The first verses of Hebrews 2 are like a call to hold on tight. The message of salvation was first spoken by the Lord and confirmed by those who heard him. God also testified to it with signs, wonders, works of power, and gifts of the Holy Spirit. The letter asks how anyone can escape if they neglect so great a salvation.

Psalm 8 marvels that God cares about people at all. What is man, that you think of him? Or the son of man, that you care for him? God gave people honor and put things under them. But the letter admits that the world does not yet look like that. Instead, the readers see Jesus, made a little lower than the angels and now crowned with glory and honor, so that by the grace of God he should taste of death for everyone.

Jesus shared in flesh and blood like the children he came to save. He calls them brothers and says, Behold, here I am with the children whom God has given me. He came to set free those who lived in fear. Because he suffered being tempted, he is able to help those who are tempted.

Hebrews 2 · Grade 5

A Merciful and Faithful High Priest

Name Date

Read and Think

Hebrews 2 opens with the first of several warnings in the letter. Therefore we ought to pay greater attention to the things that were heard, lest perhaps we drift away. The picture is of a boat slipping past its harbor. People rarely leave God in one leap; they drift when they stop paying attention. The warning reasons from lesser to greater. If the message spoken through angels was steadfast, how much more serious is neglecting so great a salvation spoken by the Lord himself?

Verses 5 to 9 read Psalm 8 as a promise about people that finds its fullness in Jesus. God crowned people with glory and honor and put all things under them. Yet now we don’t yet see all things subjected to him. What the readers do see is Jesus, crowned with glory and honor because of the suffering of death, who tasted death for everyone by the grace of God.

Verses 10 to 18 explain why the Son had to become fully human. He shares one family with those he makes holy, and he is not ashamed to call them brothers. Since the children have shared in flesh and blood, he also himself in the same way partook of the same. He came to deliver those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage. He had to be made like his brothers so he could become a merciful and faithful high priest. For in that he himself has suffered being tempted, he is able to help those who are tempted.
