Genesis 7 · Grade 3

God Shut Them In

Name Date

Read the Story

God told Noah to go into the ark with his family, because Noah was righteous before Him. God said that in seven days He would send rain. Noah obeyed. He brought in seven pairs of every clean animal and two of the others, and birds as well.

Noah was six hundred years old when the flood began. The fountains of the great deep burst open, and the windows of the sky were opened. The Lord Himself shut the door of the ark behind them. Rain fell for forty days and forty nights.

The waters rose higher and higher until even the high mountains were covered. Every living thing on the land outside the ark died. Only Noah and those with him in the ark were left. The waters stayed on the earth for 150 days.

Memory Verse

“Those who went in, went in male and female of all flesh, as God commanded him; then Yahweh shut him in.”

Genesis 7 · Grade 4

Inside the Ark

Name Date

Read and Think

After Noah finished building, God said, Come with all of your household into the ship, for I have seen your righteousness before me in this generation. God gave Noah seven days to load the ark. Noah, his wife, his sons Shem, Ham and Japheth, and their wives went in, along with the animals, just as God commanded.

Then the Lord shut them in. This small detail is a big comfort. God Himself closed the door. Noah's safety did not depend on his own strength but on God's care.

The flood came. Water burst up from the deep and poured down from the sky for forty days and nights. The waters rose above the mountains, and every living thing outside the ark perished. The flood was God's judgment on a violent and wicked world. But inside the ark, God preserved Noah, his family and the animals, keeping His promise.

Genesis 7 · Grade 5

Judgment and Rescue

Name Date

Read and Think

Genesis 7 shows both sides of God's character: His justice and His mercy. God called Noah into the ark, saying He had seen that Noah was righteous in that generation. Noah brought in his family and the animals, seven pairs of clean animals and birds and one pair of the others, so life could continue after the flood. Noah did all that the Lord commanded.

In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, on a specific day, the fountains of the great deep burst open and the windows of the heavens were opened. The Bible gives careful dates, presenting this as real history. The Lord shut Noah in. Rain fell forty days and forty nights, and the waters prevailed over the earth until the high mountains were covered.

Everything on dry land with the breath of life died. This was God's just judgment on sin. But verse 23 ends with grace: only Noah was left, and those who were with him in the ark. In the New Testament, Peter compares the flood to baptism and points to salvation in Christ (1 Peter 3:20-21). Christians have read this as a picture of Jesus, who keeps safe all who trust Him.

  1. Why did Noah bring seven pairs of clean animals?

  2. What details show Genesis presents the flood as real history?

  3. Who shut the door of the ark?

  4. What two sides of God's character does this chapter show?

  5. How does the New Testament connect the ark to salvation?
