Genesis 6 · Grade 3

Noah Found Favor

Name Date

Read the Story

As the number of people grew, so did sin. The Bible says that every thought in people's hearts was evil all the time. The earth was full of violence. God was grieved in His heart that He had made people, and He decided to send a flood.

But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord. Noah was a righteous man who walked with God. God told Noah to make an ark of wood, with rooms inside, a roof, a door in the side, and three decks. It was to be covered with pitch inside and out.

God promised to make a covenant with Noah. Noah, his wife, his three sons (Shem, Ham and Japheth), and their wives would go into the ark. Noah would bring two of every kind of living creature, male and female, and plenty of food. Noah did all that God commanded him.

Genesis 6 · Grade 4

A Righteous Man in a Wicked World

Name Date

Read and Think

Genesis 6 describes a world that had become very wicked. People's thoughts were set on evil continually, and the earth was filled with violence. God saw it all, and He was grieved in His heart. God is holy, and He takes sin seriously. He said He would send a flood to judge the earth.

Yet one man stood out: Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord. Noah was righteous and blameless among the people of his time, and like Enoch, he walked with God. Noah's goodness came from trusting God, and God showed him grace.

God gave Noah detailed instructions for building an ark: its size, its rooms, a roof, a door, and three decks. God promised to establish His covenant with Noah and keep him, his family, and the animals alive. Noah obeyed completely. He did everything God commanded him, even though it must have seemed strange to build a huge boat.

Genesis 6 · Grade 5

Grace in a Time of Judgment

Name Date

Read and Think

Genesis 6 shows how far sin had spread. The Lord saw that people's wickedness was great and that every intention of the thoughts of their hearts was only evil continually. The earth was corrupt and filled with violence. In response, the Lord was grieved in His heart. God's judgment comes from His holiness, but it is not cold. He is deeply sorrowed by sin.

In the middle of this dark scene comes a bright verse: Noah found favor in Yahweh's eyes. Favor means grace, kindness that is given, not earned. Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he walked with God. Hebrews 11:7 says Noah acted by faith, building the ark in reverent fear.

God told Noah to build an ark of gopher wood, about 450 feet long, with rooms, three decks, a door and a roof. God promised to establish His covenant with Noah. Noah, his family and pairs of every kind of animal would be kept alive. The chapter ends with a simple sentence of obedience: Noah did everything just as God commanded him.

Show What You Know

  1. What did God see when He looked at the earth?

  2. What does it tell us about God that He was grieved in His heart?

  3. What does it mean that Noah found favor?

  4. According to Hebrews 11:7, how did Noah build the ark?
