Enoch Walked with God

Name Date

Read the Story

Genesis 5 is a list of families. It starts with Adam. Then it names his son Seth, and Seth's son, and on and on. Each father had sons and daughters.

One man in the list was special. His name was Enoch. Enoch walked with God. That means he loved God and followed Him every day. Then one day Enoch was gone, because God took him!

Enoch had a son named Methuselah. Methuselah lived longer than anyone else in the Bible. At the end of the list we meet a man named Noah. God had a big plan for Noah.

Memory Verse

“Enoch walked with God, and he was not found, for God took him.”

Genesis 5 · Grade 3

A Family Line of Faith

Name Date

Read the Story

Genesis 5 traces the family line from Adam to Noah. Adam had a son named Seth, made in Adam's likeness. The list goes on: Seth, Enosh, Kenan, Mahalalel, Jared, Enoch, Methuselah, Lamech, and Noah. These men lived very long lives.

Most of the list repeats a pattern: a man lived, had sons and daughters, and then he died. Death had come into the world, just as God warned in Genesis 3.

But Enoch is different. Twice the chapter says that Enoch walked with God. Then he was not found, because God took him. Enoch did not die like the others. Methuselah, Enoch's son, lived longer than anyone else in the list. Lamech named his son Noah and hoped he would bring comfort from the hard work caused by the curse.

Memory Verse

“Enoch walked with God, and he was not found, for God took him.”

Genesis 5 · Grade 4

Enoch: A Man Who Walked with God

Name Date

Read and Think

At first Genesis 5 may seem like a list of hard names. But it is important. It shows how God kept the family line going from Adam, through Seth, all the way to Noah. God had promised that the woman's offspring would defeat the serpent, and this list tracks that promised family.

The list follows a pattern: a man lived, had sons and daughters, and died. The phrase then he died sounds like a drumbeat, reminding us that sin brought death, just as God said.

Then comes Enoch. Instead of then he died, we read that Enoch walked with God, and he was not, for God took him. Enoch lived in close friendship with God, trusting and obeying Him. Hebrews 11:5 says Enoch pleased God by faith.

Show What You Know

  1. Why does the Bible include this family list?

  2. What phrase repeats like a drumbeat, and what does it remind us of?

  3. What does it mean that Enoch walked with God?

  4. What does Hebrews 11:5 say about Enoch?

Think About It

  1. What do you think walking with God would look like in your everyday life with friends or at home?

  2. Long lists of names show that God remembers people. How does it feel to know God knows your name?

Memory Verse

“Enoch walked with God, and he was not found, for God took him.”

Genesis 5 · Grade 5

Death Reigns, but God Takes Enoch

Name Date

Read and Think

Genesis 5 is a genealogy, a record of a family line. It follows Adam's descendants through Seth down to Noah. This line matters because God promised in Genesis 3:15 that the woman's offspring would crush the serpent. In the New Testament, Luke 3:36-38 traces Jesus' family line back through these names.

The chapter has a steady pattern: a man lived a certain number of years, fathered a son, had other sons and daughters, and then he died. These long lives are striking. Methuselah lived the longest of all. Yet even the longest life ended in death. God's warning in the garden came true.

Enoch breaks the pattern. He walked with God, a phrase used twice, and then he was not, because God took him. Enoch is a picture of hope: death does not get the final word for those who belong to God. At the end, Lamech names his son Noah, hoping he will bring relief from the painful toil caused by the curse on the ground. God would indeed use Noah in a mighty way.

Show What You Know

  1. What is a genealogy, and where does this one eventually lead?

  2. What repeated pattern shows the effect of sin?

  3. Who lived the longest in the list?

  4. How does Enoch give hope?

  5. What did Lamech hope Noah would bring?
