Genesis 46 · Grade 4
No Need to Fear
Read and Think
Jacob was old, and moving to Egypt was a big change. Long before, God had told Isaac not to go to Egypt. So Jacob stopped at Beersheba to worship and seek God before leaving the promised land.
God answered with comfort: Don't be afraid. God promised to go with Jacob and to bring his family back one day. God had told Abraham that his descendants would live in a foreign land before returning (Genesis 15:13-14). This move was part of God's plan.
The list of seventy names reminds us that God knows every person in His family. The reunion of Joseph and Jacob after more than twenty years was full of joy. God had kept Jacob's son alive and brought them together again.
