God Goes with Jacob

Name Date

Read the Story

Israel traveled with all he had and came to Beersheba, where he offered sacrifices to the God of his father Isaac. God spoke to him in visions of the night: Jacob, Jacob. He answered, Here I am. God said, I am God, the God of your father. Don't be afraid to go down into Egypt, for there I will make of you a great nation. I will go down with you into Egypt. I will also surely bring you up again.

Jacob's sons carried their father, their little ones and their wives in the wagons Pharaoh had sent. They took their livestock and goods to Egypt. The chapter lists the names of Jacob's sons and grandsons. All the people of Jacob's household who came to Egypt were seventy.

Jacob sent Judah ahead to Joseph to show the way to Goshen. Joseph got his chariot ready and went to meet his father. He fell on his neck and wept a long time. Israel said, Now let me die, since I have seen your face, that you are still alive. Joseph told his brothers to tell Pharaoh they were shepherds, so they could live in Goshen.
