Genesis 4 · Grade 3
Sin Is Crouching at the Door
Read the Story
Cain, the older son, worked the ground. Abel, the younger son, kept sheep. In time both brought offerings to the Lord. Cain brought some of his crops. Abel brought the firstborn of his flock and their best parts. God accepted Abel and his offering, but He did not accept Cain and his offering.
Cain became angry, and his face showed it. God spoke to him kindly and warned him: if you do well, you will be accepted. But sin is waiting at the door, and it wants to control you. You must rule over it.
Cain did not listen. He attacked his brother in the field, and Abel died. When God asked, Where is Abel? Cain answered, Am I my brother's keeper? God sent Cain away to wander, but He put a mark on Cain so no one would kill him. God then gave Adam and Eve a son named Seth, and people began to call on the name of the Lord.
Memory Verse
“If you do well, won’t it be lifted up? If you don’t do well, sin crouches at the door. Its desire is for you, but you are to rule over it.””
