Genesis 35 · Grade 2
Jacob Goes to Bethel
Read the Story
God told Jacob to go to Bethel and build an altar there. Bethel was the place where Jacob had dreamed of the stairway to heaven.
Jacob told his family to put away their false gods, because they were going to worship the true God. They gave Jacob their idols, and he buried them under a tree. Then they traveled to Bethel, and Jacob built an altar.
God blessed Jacob there and said that his name would be Israel. Later, Rachel had a baby boy named Benjamin, but Rachel died. Jacob was very sad. Now Jacob had twelve sons.
Memory Verse
“Let’s arise, and go up to Bethel. I will make there an altar to God, who answered me in the day of my distress, and was with me on the way which I went.””
