Genesis 26 · Grade 4
Blessed to Be a Peacemaker
Read and Think
Genesis 26 is the main chapter about Isaac on his own. During a famine, God appeared to Isaac and gave him the same promises He had made to Abraham: land, many descendants, and blessing for all nations. The promise passed from father to son.
Like his father, Isaac was afraid and called his wife his sister. Sin patterns can pass from one generation to the next, but so can faith. God protected Isaac and Rebekah and blessed Isaac's work. His crops, flocks and herds grew so much that the Philistines became jealous.
When the Philistines filled in his wells and argued over new ones, Isaac kept moving instead of fighting. God gave him Rehoboth, a place with room. In the New Testament, Jesus calls peacemakers blessed (Matthew 5:9). Isaac's gentle response led even his rivals to say, We saw plainly that Yahweh was with you, and they asked for a peace treaty.
