Genesis 26 · Grade 3
Room to Grow
Read the Story
There was a famine in the land. The Lord appeared to Isaac and told him not to go down to Egypt. God promised, I will be with you, and will bless you, and repeated the promises He had made to Abraham. Isaac stayed in Gerar.
Isaac was afraid and said Rebekah was his sister, just as his father once did. King Abimelech found out the truth and ordered that no one harm them. Isaac planted crops and reaped a hundred times as much, for the Lord blessed him. The Philistines became jealous and stopped up the wells Abraham had dug.
Isaac's servants dug new wells, but the herdsmen of Gerar argued over them. Isaac moved on and dug another well, and there was no argument. He named it Rehoboth, saying, For now Yahweh has made room for us. At Beersheba the Lord appeared to him and said, Don't be afraid, for I am with you. Isaac built an altar, and later he made a peace treaty with Abimelech.
Memory Verse
“Live in this land, and I will be with you, and will bless you. For I will give to you, and to your offspring, all these lands, and I will establish the oath which I swore to Abraham your father.”
