Genesis 17 · Grade 3
Father of Many Nations
Read the Story
When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the Lord appeared to him and said, I am God Almighty. Walk before me and be blameless. God gave His promises again. Abram would be the father of many nations. God would be God to him and his children forever.
God changed Abram's name to Abraham, which means father of a multitude. He changed Sarai's name to Sarah and promised to bless her with a son. Kings of peoples would come from her. God also gave a sign for the boys and men in Abraham's home. It showed that they belonged to God's family.
Abraham fell on his face and laughed. How could he and Sarah have a child at their age? He asked God to bless Ishmael. God said He would bless Ishmael. But His covenant would be with Isaac. Sarah would have Isaac the next year. That same day Abraham obeyed everything God commanded.
Memory Verse
“I will establish my covenant between me and you and your offspring after you throughout their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God to you and to your offspring after you.”
