Genesis 13 · Grade 4
Generous Faith
Read and Think
Back in Canaan, Abram returned to the altar he had built near Bethel and called on the name of the Lord. God had made him wealthy, and Lot was wealthy too. Soon their herdsmen quarreled because there was not enough pasture and water.
Abram could have demanded the best land. He was older, and God had promised him the land. Instead he chose peace and generosity and let Lot choose first. Abram trusted that God would provide for him, so he did not need to grab.
Lot chose with his eyes. He saw the lush Jordan valley and chose it, moving toward Sodom, a very sinful city. Right after this, God spoke to Abram and renewed His promise: I will give all the land which you see to you and to your offspring forever. Abram moved his tent to Hebron and built another altar.
