God Made the World

Read the Story

Before anything else was here, God was there. In the beginning, God made the heavens and the earth.

On the first day, God said, Let there be light, and there was light! God made the sky, the dry land, the seas, and green plants. He made the sun to shine in the day and the moon and stars to shine at night.

God filled the seas with fish and the sky with birds. He made animals of every kind. Last of all, God made people. God looked at everything He had made, and it was very good.

Genesis 1 · Grade 3

Six Days of Creation

Name Date

Read the Story

Genesis 1 tells us how the world began. God made everything by His word. When God spoke, it happened!

Day 1: God made light and separated it from the darkness. Day 2: God made the sky. Day 3: God gathered the waters into seas, made dry land appear, and filled the land with plants and fruit trees. Day 4: God made the sun, moon and stars. Day 5: God filled the seas with sea creatures and the sky with birds. Day 6: God made land animals, and then He made people.

People are special. God made man and woman in His own image. He blessed them and gave them the job of caring for His creation. When God was finished, He saw that everything He had made was very good.

Genesis 1 · Grade 4

In the Beginning, God

Name Date

Read and Think

The very first words of the Bible are, In the beginning, God. Before there was a sun, an ocean, or a single person, God was already there. Genesis 1 shows us that God is the Creator of everything, and that nothing exists without Him.

Over six days, God shaped and filled His world. First He made light. Then He made the sky, and then gathered the waters so dry land appeared, covered with plants and fruit trees. On the fourth day He placed the sun, moon and stars in the sky. On the fifth day He filled the seas and the air with creatures, and on the sixth day He made land animals.

Then God did something different. He made people in his own image. That means people are made to know God, to reflect His goodness, and to care for His world. Again and again the chapter says, God saw that it was good. At the end, God looked at everything and called it very good.

Genesis 1 · Grade 5

The Creator and His Very Good World

Name Date

Read and Think

Genesis 1 opens with a powerful statement: In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. The Bible does not try to prove that God exists; it begins with Him. God is eternal, and everything else depends on Him.

Notice how God works. On Days 1 to 3 He forms the world: light and darkness, sky and waters, land and plants. On Days 4 to 6 He fills what He formed: lights for the day and night, creatures for the sea and sky, and animals and people for the land. God brings order and fullness, and He does it simply by speaking. His word is powerful.

The high point of the chapter is the creation of people. Only humans are made in God's image, male and female. God blesses them and gives them a job: to fill the earth and care for it under His authority. Every person you meet carries God's image and has great worth. When God finished, He looked at all of it and declared it very good.

  3. What does it mean that people are made in God's image?
