Ezekiel 47 · Grade 3

Fruit Every Month

Name Date

Read the Story

Ezekiel says a man showed him water flowing from the temple. The man measured, and the water got deeper and deeper. Soon it was a river too deep to cross.

The river flowed to the salty sea and made it fresh. Fish filled the water. Fishermen spread their nets on the shore.

Trees grew on both banks. They had fruit every month. Their leaves were for healing. The land would be shared by the twelve tribes.

Memory Verse

By the river banks, on both sides, will grow every tree for food, whose leaf won’t wither, neither will its fruit fail. It will produce new fruit every month, because its waters issue out of the sanctuary. Its fruit will be for food, and its leaf for healing.”

Ezekiel 47 · Grade 4

Everything Will Live

Name Date

Read and Think

Ezekiel says the man brought him to the door of the temple. Water flowed out from under the threshold toward the east. The man measured a thousand cubits, and the water was ankle-deep. Then it was knee-deep, then waist-deep, and at last a river too deep to cross.

The man explained that the river would flow into the Dead Sea and heal its waters. Wherever the river went, every living creature would live, and there would be a great many fish. Fishermen would stand on the shore and spread their nets.

Fruit trees grew on both banks. Their leaves would not wither, and they would bear fruit every month, because the water came from the sanctuary. God then set the borders of the land for the twelve tribes. Even foreigners living there would receive land.

Ezekiel 47 · Grade 5

Leaves for Healing

Name Date

Read and Think

Ezekiel 47 opens with one of the Bible's most beautiful pictures. Ezekiel says water trickled from under the temple threshold, flowing east. Every thousand cubits it grew deeper, from ankles to knees to waist, until it became a river that could not be crossed. Unlike natural rivers, it grew without tributaries; its source was God's presence.

The river flowed down into the Dead Sea, a lake so salty almost nothing lives in it. There the waters would be healed, and everything will live wherever the river comes. Fishermen would spread nets from En Gedi to En Eglaim. Only the marshes would stay salty, providing salt. The picture is of God's presence bringing life to the most lifeless places.

Trees on both banks would bear fruit every month, and their leaves would be for healing. The chapter closes by dividing the land among the twelve tribes and granting foreigners an inheritance as if native-born, a striking welcome to outsiders. In the New Testament, Revelation 22:1-2 describes a river of the water of life flowing from God's throne, with the tree of life whose leaves are for the healing of the nations.

Show What You Know

  1. What was unusual about how the river grew?

  2. Why is the Dead Sea significant in this vision?

  3. How were foreigners treated in the land division?

  4. Which New Testament passage echoes this river?
