Ezekiel 45 · Grade 4

Enough, You Princes!

Name Date

Read and Think

In the vision, God described a holy portion of land set apart for him. The sanctuary stood in the middle, with land for the priests and the Levites. Next to it was land for the city, and on each side was land for the prince.

God said: Enough, you princes of Israel! Remove violence and plunder, and execute justice and righteousness! Kings of Israel had often taken land from the people. Now each prince would have his own portion, so he would not need to take anyone else's.

God commanded honest weights and measures, a just ephah and a just bath. The people would give offerings to the prince, and the prince would provide sacrifices for the feasts, new moons, and Sabbaths. God also gave rules for Passover and the feast in the seventh month.

Show What You Know

  1. What stood in the middle of the holy portion?

  2. What did God tell the princes to remove?

  3. Why would each prince receive his own land?

Ezekiel 45 · Grade 5

Justice in the Land

Name Date

Read and Think

Ezekiel 45 moves from the temple to the land around it. A sacred district, the holy offering, would be set apart for Yahweh, with the sanctuary at its center, the priests' land around it, and the Levites' land next. Beside it lay land for the city. On either side the prince received his own portion. The arrangement put God at the center of national life.

The prince's land had a purpose: so the princes would no longer oppress God's people. Israel's history was full of kings who seized land, like Ahab taking Naboth's vineyard in 1 Kings 21. God's call for the princes to remove violence and plunder and to do justice and righteousness echoes the earlier prophets. Justice was not an add-on to worship; it was part of it.

God required just balances, a just ephah, and a just bath. Amos and Micah had condemned dishonest scales. The people's offerings would go to the prince, who would supply sacrifices for the feasts, new moons, and Sabbaths. The chapter ends with a new-year cleansing of the sanctuary, Passover in the first month, and a feast in the seventh month. In the New Testament, Luke 16:10 says: He who is faithful in a very little is faithful also in much.

Show What You Know

  1. What was at the center of the holy district?

  2. What example of a king seizing land is given?

  3. Which earlier prophets condemned dishonest scales?

  4. Which New Testament verse speaks of being faithful in a very little?

  2. It is a ____ portion of the land

Down

  1. Side by side with the offering of the holy ____
  2. The ____ and the bath shall be of one measure

Think About It

  1. Justice was part of worship, not separate from it. How does the way people treat others relate to how they worship God?

  2. Luke 16:10 says faithfulness in little things matters. What small ways can you practice honesty this week?

“‘The Lord Yahweh says: “Enough, you princes of Israel! Remove violence and plunder, and execute justice and righteousness! Stop dispossessing my people!” says the Lord Yahweh.
