Ezekiel 32: A Lament for Pharaoh

In the twelfth year, God told Ezekiel to take up a lament for Pharaoh king of Egypt. Pharaoh thought of himself as a young lion among the nations, but he was more like a monster in the seas, stirring up the waters and muddying the rivers. God said he would spread his net over Pharaoh and bring him up. He would cover the lights of the sky over Egypt with darkness, and many peoples would be troubled when they heard of Egypt's fall. The sword of the king of Babylon would come on Egypt. Afterward God would make Egypt's waters clear and its rivers run smooth like oil. In a second lament, God described Egypt going down to the realm of the dead to join other once-mighty nations, Assyria, Elam, Meshech, Tubal, Edom, and Sidon, who had spread terror in the land of the living but now lay humbled.
