As the Lord Commanded

Name Date

Read the Story

The workers made the holy garments for Aaron, as the Lord commanded Moses. They made the ephod of gold, blue, purple and scarlet yarn and fine linen. They hammered gold into thin sheets and cut it into threads to weave in. Two onyx stones on the shoulders had the names of the sons of Israel.

They made the breastplate with four rows of jewels, twelve stones in all, one for each tribe. They made the robe all of blue, with pomegranates and golden bells around the hem. They made linen coats, turbans and a sash. They made the plate of the holy crown of pure gold and wrote on it, HOLY TO YAHWEH.

So all the work of the tabernacle was finished. The people did everything just as the Lord commanded Moses. They brought the tent, the furniture, the curtains and the garments to Moses. Moses saw all the work. They had done it as the Lord commanded, and Moses blessed them.

Memory Verse

“Thus all the work of the tabernacle of the Tent of Meeting was finished. The children of Israel did according to all that Yahweh commanded Moses; so they did.”

Exodus 39 · Grade 4

Faithful Obedience

Name Date

Read and Think

The words as the Lord commanded Moses appear again and again in this chapter. The people obeyed God carefully, step by step. Obedience is a way to show love for God (John 14:15).

The priest wore the names of the tribes on his shoulders and over his heart. This showed that he carried the people before God. Christians have read this as a picture of Jesus our High Priest, who carries His people on His heart too.

When the work was done, Moses blessed the people. God blesses faithful work. In the New Testament, Jesus told a story in which the master says well done to his faithful servant (Matthew 25:21).

Show What You Know

  1. What words appear again and again in this chapter?

  2. According to John 14:15, what does obedience show?

  3. What did the names on the priest's shoulders and heart show?

  4. What will Jesus say to His faithful servants?

Think About It

  1. How can you obey God step by step this week?

  2. What does it mean to you that Jesus carries you on His heart?

Memory Verse

“Moses saw all the work, and behold, they had done it as Yahweh had commanded. They had done so; and Moses blessed them.”

Exodus 39 · Grade 5

Holiness Worn and Work Completed

Name Date

Read and Think

Exodus 39 describes the making of Aaron's garments, following chapter 28. The phrase as Yahweh commanded Moses occurs seven times in the account of the garments, and the chapter closes with several more echoes. Seven is often a number of completeness in Scripture, and the pattern highlights Israel's full obedience after the failure of the golden calf.

The gold plate on the turban read HOLY TO YAHWEH (39:30). Aaron carried the holiness of Israel's worship on his forehead, bearing the guilt of their holy things (28:38). In the New Testament, the church is called a holy priesthood (1 Peter 2:5), and Zechariah foresaw a day when even the bells of horses would read HOLY TO YAHWEH (Zechariah 14:20). All of life is meant to belong to God.

The chapter ends like a creation scene. Just as God saw all that He had made (Genesis 1:31), finished His work (Genesis 2:2) and blessed (Genesis 2:3), so Moses saw all the work, saw it was done as commanded, and blessed the people (39:43). The tabernacle is a small picture of a restored world where God dwells with His people, pointing toward the new creation of Revelation 21:3.

Show What You Know

  1. How many times does as Yahweh commanded Moses appear in the account of the garments?

  2. What does the repeated phrase highlight?

  3. What does Zechariah 14:20 picture?

  4. How does 39:43 echo Genesis 1 and 2?

  5. Where does the tabernacle point, according to Revelation 21:3?

Think About It

  1. What ordinary part of your life could you mark as holy to the Lord?

  2. How does the tabernacle help you look forward to the new creation?

Memory Verse

“They made the plate of the holy crown of pure gold, and wrote on it an inscription, like the engravings of a signet: “HOLY TO YAHWEH”.”
