God Proclaims His Name

Name Date

Read the Story

God said, Chisel two stone tablets like the first. I will write on the tablets the words that were on the first tablets, which you broke. Early in the morning Moses went up Mount Sinai with the two tablets in his hand.

The Lord came down in the cloud and stood with him. He passed before Moses and proclaimed, Yahweh! Yahweh, a merciful and gracious God, slow to anger, and abundant in loving kindness and truth. God forgives sin, but he does not ignore guilt. Moses hurried and bowed his head to the ground and worshiped. He asked the Lord to go among them, forgive their sin, and take them as his own.

God said, Behold, I make a covenant. He promised to do wonders. He warned them not to worship any other god, for He is a jealous God. Moses stayed there forty days and forty nights. He did not eat bread or drink water. The Ten Commandments were written on the tablets. When Moses came down, his face shone because he had talked with God. The people were afraid to come near. So when Moses finished speaking with them, he put a veil over his face.

Memory Verse
