Exodus 28 · Grade 3
Names on His Heart
Read the Story
God told Moses to bring Aaron and his sons to serve him as priests. Moses was to make holy garments for Aaron, for glory and for beauty. Skilled workers would make them.
The ephod was made of gold, blue, purple and scarlet yarn and fine linen. On its shoulder straps were two onyx stones. The names of the twelve tribes were carved on them, six on each stone. The breastplate had four rows of three precious stones. Each stone had the name of a tribe. So Aaron would carry Israel's names on his heart when he went into the holy place.
The robe was all blue. Around its hem were pomegranates made of yarn and bells of gold. The bells would ring as Aaron served in the holy place. On his turban was a plate of pure gold. It said, HOLY TO YAHWEH. Aaron's sons would also wear coats, sashes and caps for glory and for beauty.
Memory Verse
“Aaron shall bear the names of the children of Israel in the breastplate of judgment on his heart, when he goes in to the holy place, for a memorial before Yahweh continually.”
