Exodus 14 · Grade 3
God Opens the Sea
Read the Story
God told Moses to camp by the sea. God said Pharaoh would follow them, but the Egyptians shall know that I am Yahweh. Pharaoh took six hundred chosen chariots and pursued Israel. When Israel saw the Egyptians, they were very afraid and cried out to Yahweh. They said to Moses, Because there were no graves in Egypt, have you taken us away to die in the wilderness?
Moses said, Don't be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation of Yahweh, which he will work for you today. He said, Yahweh will fight for you, and you shall be still. God told Moses to tell the people to go forward. The angel of God and the pillar of cloud moved behind them, giving darkness to Egypt and light to Israel.
Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and Yahweh drove the sea back by a strong east wind all night, making dry land. Israel went into the middle of the sea on dry ground, with the waters a wall on their right and left. The Egyptians followed, but God troubled their army and made their chariot wheels come off. Moses stretched out his hand again, and the sea returned. Israel saw the great work Yahweh did, and the people feared Yahweh and believed in Him and in His servant Moses.
