Exodus 1 · Grade 4

Fearing God More Than the King

Name Date

Read and Think

Exodus begins where Genesis ended. God had promised Abraham that his family would be as many as the stars. In Egypt, that promise came true: the Israelites grew into a huge people.

A new Pharaoh forgot Joseph and saw Israel as a danger. He tried to crush them with slavery, but God kept blessing them. No king can stop God's promises.

Shiphrah and Puah showed great courage. They respected God more than the most powerful king in the world. Their choice protected many lives. The Bible remembers their names, while the name of that Pharaoh is not given.
