Esther 8 · Grade 3
A New Letter
Read the Story
That same day, the king gave Haman's house to Esther. Esther told the king that Mordecai was her cousin. The king gave Mordecai the ring he had taken from Haman. Esther set Mordecai over Haman's house.
But Haman's letter was still the law. Esther fell at the king's feet. She wept and begged him to stop Haman's evil plan. The king held out the gold scepter. A law sealed with the king's ring could not be changed. So the king let Esther and Mordecai write a new letter. It let the Jews gather and protect themselves.
Riders on swift horses carried the letter to all 127 lands. Mordecai went out in royal clothes and a great gold crown. The city of Susa shouted for joy. The Jews had light, gladness, joy, and honor. Many people from other nations joined the Jews.
