Esther 7 · Grade 4
Courage at the Banquet
Read and Think
The king and Haman came to banquet with Queen Esther. On the second day, the king asked once more what her petition was. He would give her even half of the kingdom. Esther asked that her life be given her, and her people at her request. She explained that they had been sold to be destroyed.
The king asked who had dared to do such a thing. Esther answered that the adversary and enemy was this wicked Haman. Then Haman was afraid before the king and the queen. The king rose in his wrath and went into the palace garden. Haman stood up to plead for his life with Queen Esther.
When the king returned, he was even more angry with Haman. Harbonah, a servant, told the king about the gallows Haman had made for Mordecai. The king commanded that Haman be hanged on it. The evil Haman had planned for others fell on himself. Then the king's wrath was pacified. Psalm 7:16 says the trouble a wicked man causes returns on his own head.
