Deuteronomy 32 · Grade 4
The Rock of Salvation
Read and Think
The Song of Moses was a witness for Israel's future. It opens with praise. God is the Rock, His work is perfect, and all His ways are just. Rock is one of the song's key images. It shows God's strength and faithfulness.
The song tells Israel's story. God found them in a howling wilderness, guarded them as the apple of His eye, and carried them like an eagle. He alone led them. Yet Jeshurun, a pet name for Israel, grew fat and kicked. They forgot the Rock who made them and served idols.
God would judge, but He would also have compassion on His servants. He declares, I am He. There is no god with me. I kill and I make alive. Moses urged Israel to teach the song to their children, for it is your life.
