Deuteronomy 29 · Grade 3
Standing Before God Together
Read the Story
In the land of Moab, Moses gathered all Israel to make a covenant with God. Leaders, men, wives, and little ones came. Foreigners came. Even those who cut wood and carried water stood before God. The covenant was also for children not yet born.
Moses reminded them of the forty years. Their clothes and sandals had not worn out. They had not eaten bread or drunk wine. This was so they would know that Yahweh was their God.
Moses warned against a root that bears poison and bitterness. That is a person who turns to idols but thinks he will be safe. Then Moses said, The secret things belong to God. But the things revealed belong to us and our children forever.
Memory Verse
“The secret things belong to Yahweh our God; but the things that are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law.”
