Deuteronomy 23 · Grade 3
Faithful in Word and Deed
Read the Story
Moses said Israel must not hate an Edomite, because he is their brother, or an Egyptian, because they lived in his land. The camp must be kept clean, because God walked in the middle of it to save them.
An escaped slave who fled to Israel must not be handed back to his master. He could live wherever he chose, and they must not oppress him. Israel must not charge interest to a brother.
If they made a vow to God, they must not be slow to pay it. It was not a sin to make no vow, but what came out of their lips they must do. A traveler could eat grapes or pluck grain in a neighbor's field, but not take any away.
Memory Verse
“You shall observe and do that which has gone out of your lips. Whatever you have vowed to Yahweh your God as a free will offering, which you have promised with your mouth, you must do.”
