Read the Story

God told Moses to cut two new stones. God wrote the ten rules on them again. Moses put them in a box called the ark.

Then Moses asked, What does God want from you? Love God. Walk in His ways. Serve Him with all your heart. Keep His rules. They are for your good.

God made heaven and earth. He is great. He cares for the child with no father. He gives food and clothes to people far from home. So love them too. You were once far from home in Egypt.

Memory Verse

“You shall fear Yahweh your God. You shall serve him. You shall cling to him, and you shall swear by his name.”

Deuteronomy 10 · Grade 3

God's Requirement

Name Date

Read the Story

After the golden calf, God told Moses to cut two new stone tablets. God wrote the ten commandments on them again, and Moses put them in the ark he had made. God set apart the tribe of Levi to carry the ark and to bless in His name.

Moses asked, What does God require of you? To fear Him, walk in all His ways, love Him, serve Him with all your heart and soul, and keep His commandments for your good. Heaven and earth belong to God.

God is God of gods and Lord of lords. He does not take bribes. He brings justice for the fatherless and the widow, and loves the foreigner, giving him food and clothing. So Israel must love the foreigner, because they were foreigners in Egypt.

“You shall fear Yahweh your God. You shall serve him. You shall cling to him, and you shall swear by his name.”

Deuteronomy 10 · Grade 4

What the Lord Requires

Name Date

Read and Think

Deuteronomy 10 shows God's mercy after the golden calf. He told Moses to cut new tablets, and He wrote the same words again. The broken covenant was renewed. The tablets were placed in the ark, and the Levites were set apart to carry it and serve.

Moses then asks one of the Bible's great questions: What does the Lord your God require of you? The answer is to fear Him, walk in His ways, love Him, serve Him with all your heart and soul, and keep His commands for your good. Moses also says, Circumcise your heart. This means letting God make the heart open and soft toward Him.

The God who owns heaven and earth also cares for the weak. He shows no partiality and takes no bribes. He defends the fatherless and widow and loves the foreigner. His people must reflect His character.

Deuteronomy 10 · Grade 5

A Soft Heart and an Open Hand

Name Date

Read and Think

Deuteronomy 10 opens with a second chance. After Israel broke the covenant with the golden calf, God told Moses to cut two new tablets. God wrote the same ten words a second time, showing that His covenant purpose had not changed. The tablets went into the ark, and the tribe of Levi was set apart to carry it, stand before God, and bless in His name.

Moses then summarizes the law in one question: What does the Lord your God require of you? To fear Him, to walk in His ways, to love Him, to serve Him with all your heart and soul, and to keep His commandments for your good. God's commands are for our good, not to burden us. Israel must circumcise the heart, letting God remove stubbornness from within.

The God of gods and Lord of lords is not impressed by status. He shows no partiality and takes no bribes. He executes justice for the fatherless and widow and loves the foreigner. Because Israel had been foreigners in Egypt, they must love foreigners too. Worship of the great God must show itself in care for the weak.

  2. What were the Levites set apart to do?

  3. Why are God's commands given?
