Gabriel Explains

Name Date

Read the Story

Daniel saw a vision by the river Ulai. A ram with two horns pushed westward, northward, and southward. No animals could stand before him. Then a male goat came from the west and didn't touch the ground. The goat had a notable horn between his eyes. The goat beat the ram.

The goat grew very great, but then its big horn was broken. Four horns came up in its place. Then a little horn grew proud and tried to fight against God's people and His temple.

Daniel sought to understand the vision. A voice said, Gabriel, make this man understand the vision. Gabriel told Daniel the ram was the kings of Media and Persia. The goat was the king of Greece. Daniel was so tired that he was sick for some days. Then he rose up and did the king's business.

Memory Verse

He said, “Behold, I will make you know what will be in the latter time of the indignation, for it belongs to the appointed time of the end.

A Vision by the Ulai

Name Date

Read and Think

In the third year of King Belshazzar, Daniel saw a vision by the river Ulai. A ram which had two horns stood before the river. It pushed westward, northward, and southward, and no animal could stand before it. Then a male goat came from the west and didn't touch the ground. The goat had a notable horn between his eyes, and it broke the ram's two horns.

The male goat magnified himself exceedingly. Then the great horn was broken, and four notable horns came up. A little horn grew from one of them and became very great. It grew proud against the prince of the army, and it cast down truth to the ground.

Daniel sought to understand it. A voice said, Gabriel, make this man understand the vision. Gabriel said the ram stood for the kings of Media and Persia, and the goat stood for the king of Greece. A fierce king would rise up and stand against the prince of princes; but he will be broken without hand. Daniel fainted and was sick for some days. Then he rose up and did the king's business.

Daniel 8 · Grade 5

Broken Without Hand

Name Date

Read and Think

Daniel 8 records a vision Daniel saw in the third year of King Belshazzar, by the river Ulai. A ram with two horns pushed westward, northward, and southward, and no animals could stand before him. Then a male goat came from the west over the surface of the whole earth, and didn't touch the ground. It had a notable horn between its eyes, and it broke the ram's horns. But when the goat was strong, the great horn was broken, and four notable horns came up in its place.

A small horn grew out of one of these and became very great. It magnified itself, even to the prince of the army. It took away the continual burnt offering and cast down truth to the ground. A holy one asked how long the vision would last. The answer was, To two thousand and three hundred evenings and mornings. Then the sanctuary will be cleansed.

Daniel sought to understand. A man's voice called, Gabriel, make this man understand the vision. Gabriel explained only part: the ram was the kings of Media and Persia, and the rough male goat was the king of Greece. A king of fierce face would rise and stand against the prince of princes; but he will be broken without hand. Daniel fainted and was sick for some days. Then he rose up and did the king's business, though no one understood the vision.

Show What You Know

  1. How did the goat move?

  2. What did the little horn cast down?

  3. What would happen to the sanctuary?

  4. What did Gabriel say about the rough male goat?

  5. What did Daniel do after he was sick?
