Daniel 5 · Grade 3
Weighed in the Balances
Read the Story
King Belshazzar held a huge party for a thousand of his leaders. He brought out the golden vessels that were taken from the temple in Jerusalem. At the party, people praised idols made of gold and silver.
In the same hour, a hand appeared and wrote on the wall. The king's face was changed, and he was afraid. His wise men could not read the writing. The queen told him about Daniel. Daniel came and said, Let your gifts be to yourself.
Daniel reminded the king how God humbled his father Nebuchadnezzar. He said, You, his son, Belshazzar, have not humbled your heart. Then he read the writing. It meant, you are weighed in the balances, and are found wanting. That night the kingdom was given to Darius the Mede.
Memory Verse
“Then Daniel answered before the king, “Let your gifts be to yourself, and give your rewards to another. Nevertheless, I will read the writing to the king, and make known to him the interpretation.”
