King Nebuchadnezzar had a dream. He was troubled. He wanted his wise men to tell him the dream and what it meant. No one could do it. The king was very angry.

Daniel and his friends prayed to the God of heaven. That night God showed Daniel the dream. Daniel told the king about a big statue. A stone hit it and broke it. The stone grew into a great mountain. Daniel said that God will set up a kingdom that will never be destroyed.

The God Who Reveals Secrets

Nebuchadnezzar dreamed dreams, and his spirit was troubled. He told his wise men to tell him the dream and its meaning. They said, There is not a man on the earth who can show the king's matter. The king was very angry, and the wise men were in danger. Daniel and his friends were in danger too.

Daniel asked his companions to pray to the God of heaven. Then the secret was revealed to Daniel in a vision of the night. Daniel blessed God. He said, He reveals the deep and secret things.

Daniel told the king his dream. The king had seen a great image. Its head was of fine gold. A stone was cut out without hands, and it broke the image. The stone became a great mountain and filled the whole earth. The king said that Daniel's God is the God of gods.

In the second year of his reign, Nebuchadnezzar dreamed dreams; and his spirit was troubled, and his sleep went from him. He demanded that his wise men tell him both the dream and its interpretation. They could not, and the king commanded that all the wise men of Babylon be destroyed. Daniel and his companions were sought as well.

Daniel went in and asked the king for time. He asked his three friends to pray to the God of heaven for mercy. Then the secret was revealed to Daniel in a vision of the night. Daniel praised God: He changes the times and the seasons. He removes kings and sets up kings.

Before the king, Daniel said, there is a God in heaven who reveals secrets. The king had seen a great image with a head of fine gold, chest and arms of silver, belly and thighs of bronze, legs of iron, and feet part of iron and part of clay. A stone cut out without hands broke the image, and became a great mountain. Daniel said, You are the head of gold. In the days of those kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom which will never be destroyed.

The Stone and the Kingdom

Daniel 2 shows God's rule over the most powerful king of the day. Nebuchadnezzar demanded that his wise men tell both the dream and its interpretation. They answered, There is not a man on the earth who can show the king's matter. The king commanded that all the wise men of Babylon be destroyed. Daniel returned answer with counsel and prudence to Arioch the captain of the king's guard, and asked for time.

Daniel and his companions sought mercy from the God of heaven, and the secret was revealed to Daniel in a vision of the night. His praise is a summary of the whole book: He changes the times and the seasons. He removes kings and sets up kings. He gives wisdom to the wise, and knowledge to those who have understanding. Before the king, Daniel took no credit. He said, there is a God in heaven who reveals secrets.

The dream showed a great image of gold, silver, bronze, iron, and clay, and a stone was cut out without hands, which struck the image on its feet. The stone became a great mountain and filled the whole earth. Daniel told the king, You are the head of gold. The chapter does not name the kingdoms that follow, and these sheets do not guess at them. But the text is clear about the end: the God of heaven will set up a kingdom which will never be destroyed. Christians believe this kingdom points to Jesus, for in the New Testament the angel says of Jesus, There will be no end to his Kingdom (Luke 1:33).
