Read the Story

God had given David rest from his enemies. David lived in a house of cedar, but God's ark was inside curtains. David told Nathan the prophet he wanted to build a house for God.

That night the Lord spoke to Nathan. God reminded David that He had taken him from following the sheep to be prince over His people. Then God made a promise. David's son would build a house for God's name. God would be his father, and he would be God's son. David's throne would be established forever.

David sat before the Lord and asked who he was, that God had brought him this far. He praised God, saying there is no one like Him. In the New Testament, Luke 1:32 says of Jesus, The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David.

Memory Verse

“Therefore you are great, Yahweh God. For there is no one like you, neither is there any God besides you, according to all that we have heard with our ears.”
