2 Samuel 6 · Grade 4
God Is Holy and Good
Read and Think
The ark of the covenant was the sign of God's presence with Israel. David wanted it in Jerusalem, so he gathered thirty thousand men. They placed the ark on a new cart, and the people celebrated with music.
When the cattle stumbled, Uzzah reached out and took hold of the ark. God struck him for his error, and he died by the ark. David was both displeased and afraid. He wondered how the ark could ever come to him, so he left it with Obed-Edom the Gittite.
For three months the Lord blessed Obed-Edom's whole household. David then brought the ark up with joy, offering sacrifices after the first six steps. He danced before the Lord wearing a linen ephod, blessed the people, and gave everyone bread, dates, and raisins. Michal despised him, but David said he would celebrate before the Lord.
