A Gift That Costs

Name Date

Read the Story

David told Joab to count all the people. Joab did not want to, but he did it. Then David felt bad in his heart. He said, I have sinned.

A prophet named Gad came. Hard times would come. David said, Let us fall into God's hands. His mercies are great. A great sickness came on the people. Then God said to the angel, It is enough. The sickness stopped.

Gad told David to build an altar. A man named Araunah wanted to give David the place for free. David said, No, I will pay. I will not give God a gift that costs me nothing. David built an altar and prayed. God heard.

Memory Verse

David said to Gad, “I am in distress. Let us fall now into Yahweh’s hand, for his mercies are great. Let me not fall into man’s hand.”
