2 Samuel 21 · Grade 3
Making Things Right
Read the Story
In David's days there was a famine for three years, year after year. David sought the face of the Lord. The Lord said it was because Saul had put the Gibeonites to death. Long ago, Israel had sworn an oath to let the Gibeonites live, but Saul broke it.
David asked the Gibeonites how he could make it right. They asked for seven of Saul's descendants, and David handed them over. They were put to death. David spared Mephibosheth because of his oath with Jonathan. Rizpah, the mother of two of the men, stayed on a rock and guarded their bodies from birds and animals.
When David heard what Rizpah had done, he brought the bones of Saul and Jonathan and buried them in Benjamin, in the tomb of Saul's father Kish. After that, God answered prayer for the land. Later David's men defeated four giants from Gath.
Memory Verse
“They buried the bones of Saul and Jonathan his son in the country of Benjamin in Zela, in the tomb of Kish his father; and they performed all that the king commanded. After that, God answered prayer for the land.”
