2 Samuel 2 · Grade 3
King in Hebron
Read the Story
After Saul died, David did not rush ahead. He asked God if he should go up to a city of Judah. God said yes, and told him to go to Hebron.
The men of Judah came and anointed David king over Judah. David heard that the men of Jabesh Gilead had buried Saul. He sent them a message to thank them for their kindness.
Abner, the captain of Saul's army, made Saul's son Ishbosheth king over Israel. Soon the two sides fought near the pool of Gibeon. There was a hard battle, and some men died. At last Abner asked Joab to stop, and Joab blew the trumpet.
Memory Verse
“After this, David inquired of Yahweh, saying, “Shall I go up into any of the cities of Judah?” Yahweh said to him, “Go up.” David said, “Where shall I go up?” He said, “To Hebron.””
