2 Kings 9 · Grade 3
Jehu Rides
Read the Story
Elisha called a young prophet. He told him to take a jar of oil to Ramoth Gilead. He found Jehu with the captains. He took him into a room and poured oil on his head. He said God had made him king over Israel. Jehu was to judge Ahab's house for the evil it had done. Then the young prophet ran away.
Jehu's men put their coats on the steps and blew the trumpet. They said Jehu is king! Jehu drove his chariot to Jezreel. The watchman said he drove like a madman. King Joram of Israel came out to meet him. King Ahaziah of Judah was with him.
Jehu said there could be no peace while Jezebel's sins went on. Joram and Ahaziah both died. Jezebel also died, as God had warned. Jehu said this was the word Elijah had spoken.
Memory Verse
“He arose, and went into the house. Then he poured the oil on his head, and said to him, “Yahweh, the God of Israel, says, ‘I have anointed you king over the people of Yahweh, even over Israel.”
