2 Chronicles 9 · Grade 5
Greater than Solomon
Read and Think
The queen of Sheba traveled far to test Solomon's fame with hard questions. He answered them all, and nothing was hidden from him. When she saw his wisdom and the order of his house and worship, she was overwhelmed. Not half had been told her.
Her praise turned to God. She blessed Yahweh, who delighted in Solomon and set him on his throne as king for Yahweh. The throne belonged to God, and the king's job was to do justice and righteousness. Then the chapter shows the gold, the ivory throne, the ships, and the horses that made Solomon greater than all the kings of the earth.
Yet all the kings sought the presence of Solomon to hear the wisdom God had put in his heart. The source of his greatness was God's gift. After forty years, Solomon slept with his fathers. In the New Testament, Jesus says that the queen of the south came to hear Solomon's wisdom, and one greater than Solomon is here (Matthew 12:42).
