From Start to Finish

Read the Story

After twenty years of building, Solomon built more cities. He built storage cities and cities for his chariots. He built Tadmor in the wilderness.

Solomon offered burnt offerings on the altar of Yahweh. He did it on the Sabbaths, the new moons, and the three feasts, as Moses commanded.

He set the priests and Levites in their groups, as David had ordered. They did not turn from the king's command. So all the work of Yahweh's house was finished. Then ships sailed to Ophir and brought back gold.

A Kingdom at Work

Name Date

Read and Think

After twenty years, Solomon had built Yahweh's house and his own palace. He rebuilt the cities Huram gave him. Israelites lived in them. He built Tadmor in the wilderness and many storage cities.

Solomon moved Pharaoh's daughter out of David's city into a house he built for her. He said the places where the ark had come were holy. Then he offered burnt offerings as Moses commanded, on the Sabbaths, the new moons, and the three yearly feasts.

He set the priests and Levites in their groups. He put doorkeepers at every gate. David the man of God had commanded this. So the work was done from start to finish. Solomon's ships and Huram's servants sailed to Ophir and brought back four hundred fifty talents of gold.

  2. Why did Solomon move Pharaoh's daughter?

  2. The work was finished from foundation to finish. What job can you finish well this week?

Faithful to the End

Name Date

Read and Think

Chapter 8 summarizes Solomon's building after the temple. He strengthened the kingdom with cities, storage towns, and chariot cities, reaching from Hamath to the wilderness. The kingdom was secure and prosperous, as God had promised in chapter 1.

The Chronicler cares most about worship. Solomon offered sacrifices according to the commandment of Moses on every appointed day. He set the priests, Levites, and doorkeepers in order according to David's command, and they did not turn aside in any matter.

Then comes the verdict: all the work of Solomon was accomplished, and Yahweh's house was completed. The building and the worship were both done as God commanded. In the New Testament, Jesus says to the Father, I glorified you on the earth; I have accomplished the work which you have given me to do (John 17:4).
