One Sound of Praise

Name Date

Read the Story

Solomon brought in the things David had given and put them in the treasuries. Then all the elders of Israel came. The Levites took up the ark.

The priests brought the ark into the most holy place, under the wings of the cherubim. Nothing was in it except the two tablets that Moses put there at Horeb.

The trumpeters and singers made one sound to praise and thank Yahweh. They sang, For he is good, for his loving kindness endures forever. Then the house was filled with a cloud. The priests could not stand to minister, for Yahweh's glory filled God's house.

Read and Think

When the work was finished, Solomon gathered all Israel at the feast in the seventh month. The elders came, and the Levites took up the ark. So many sheep and cattle were offered that they could not be counted.

The priests set the ark in the most holy place, under the wings of the cherubim. The ark held only the two tablets Moses put there at Horeb. The priests had sanctified themselves, and the Levite singers stood east of the altar with a hundred twenty trumpeters.

The trumpeters and singers were as one, to make one sound in praising and thanking Yahweh. They sang that he is good and his loving kindness endures forever. Then a cloud filled the house, and the priests could not stand to minister, for Yahweh's glory filled God's house.

2 Chronicles 5 · Grade 5

The Glory Comes Down

Name Date

Read and Think

Chapter 5 is the high point of the temple story. Solomon brought in David's dedicated gifts and gathered all Israel. The Levites carried the ark as the law required, and the priests set it under the cherubim's wings in the most holy place.

The Chronicler gives special attention to the music. The Levite singers, Asaph, Heman, and Jeduthun with their sons, stood in fine linen with cymbals, harps, and lyres. A hundred twenty priests blew trumpets. When they became as one voice and praised God's goodness and enduring loving kindness, the cloud came.

The same glory cloud had filled the tabernacle in Moses' day (Exodus 40:34-35). God was showing that he accepted the house and would dwell among his people. In the New Testament, John writes that the Word became flesh and lived among us, and we saw his glory (John 1:14).

Show What You Know

  1. Why did the Levites carry the ark?

  2. Name one Levite singer.

  3. When did the cloud come?

  4. When had the same cloud appeared before?

  5. What does John 1:14 say?

  1. God's presence was the real treasure of the temple. In the New Testament, God's glory is seen in Jesus (John 1:14). How does knowing him show you God's glory?

  2. The people praised God's loving kindness that endures forever. What is one way God's loving kindness has stayed with you?

Memory Verse

“Thus all the work that Solomon did for Yahweh’s house was finished. Solomon brought in the things that David his father had dedicated, even the silver, the gold, and all the vessels, and put them in the treasuries of God’s house.”
